Enthusiastic “volunteer coordinator” and “Head prep” interns to work with Cell EXPLORERS at NUI Galway!
Cell EXPLORERS (www.cellexplorers.com) develop and deliver science outreach activities through school visits, exhibitions and visits to science festivals.
The Cell EXPLORERS team is largely made up of volunteers, including NUI Galway undergraduate, postgraduate students and research scientists who love to share their enthusiasm for all things science. This is a chance to be involved in a fun, dynamic programme and to gain valuable skills in organization, communication and teamwork.
We are offering two paid internships
2-5 working hours each week for 10-12 weeks in Semester 1. Possible extension in Semester 2.
You will be based in the Cell EXPLORERS new headquarters, in the Discipline of Biochemistry in the Arts & Science Building.
1. Cell EXPLORERS volunteer coordinator : The volunteer coordinator will assist the Cell EXPLORERS team in recruiting and organizing the large volunteer team (approx. 80 in semester 1) who delivers Cell EXPLORERS activities.
The volunteer coordinator will keep track of volunteer details as well as visit requests from schools and will organize the schedule of the Fantastic DNA Roadshow teams. She/he will also assist in the organisation of teams involved in the workshops during the Galway Science and Technology Festival. The intern will also be involved in collecting feedback from volunteers to be used in an impact study. Previous knowledge of word and excel an advantage.
2. Cell EXPLORERS Head prep: this intern will manage the laboratory preparation of the Cell EXPLORERS school visits as well as the preparation of demonstrator boxes needed for school visits. The intern will organize preparation sessions and work with a small team of Cell EXPLORERS volunteers also involved in these tasks.
