Galway Science and Technology Festival 2024 Preview

University of Galway are hosting Galway Science and Technology Festival on Sunday the 10th of November! Cell Explorers will be running three different workshops throughout the day. Tickets for each of these workshops are already sold out online, but 30% of places are reserved for people to queue on the day.


Here is a preview of what's on offer!


Fantastic DNA

Extract DNA from bananas in our Fantastic DNA experiment! Participants will do a hands-on experiment and take home a sample of their very own banana DNA. Workshops will run at the following times:

  • 11.00

  • 12:00

  • 14:30

  • 15:30

  • 16:30

Cell Explorers Escape Room

The Cell Explorers Escape Room is a race against time to prevent another pandemic lockdown by solving puzzles and doing experiments using real lab equipment. No prior science knowledge is required, and you can arrive with a team or by yourself. It is suitable for ages 12 and up.

Sessions last approximately 70 minutes and will run at the following times:

  • 11:00

  • 14:30

  • 16:00

Little Cells

Designed for younger children, Little Cells is an introduction to the concept of cells that make up all living things. The workshop includes visual and tactile games, and children can make their own heart, blood, or brain cell from jumping clay to take away with them.

Little Cells workshops are designed for ages 5-8 and will run at the following times:

  • 11:00

  • 12.00

  • 14.30

  • 15.30

  • 16.30
